Mallorca or Majorca

Majorca (also spelled Mallorca) is the largest of the 16 Balearic islands. Lying in the Mediterranean about 60 miles off the coast of Spain, the islands have been home to diverse cultures since ancient times. Today Majorca is full  with tourists because of its beautiful landscape and mild, sunny climate.

Palma de Majorca is the capital of the Balearics and has a cosmopolitan look, with many shops, restaurants, and other activities for visitors.
Shopping for Majorcan pearls, glassware, wood carvings, and other handcrafted artwork is good. Those with more expensive tastes might want to visit the boutiques along Avenida Jaime III and the Paseo del Borne. Many shops close between 1:30 and 4:30-5:00 pm. The Museo de Majorca includes an interesting collection of Moorish, medieval and 18th to 19th century art. The giant cathedral and the Arab baths are also worth a visit.
